Your videos can do more than collect views
Think about the questions your future buyers ask before they’re ready to buy. Your videos can answer those questions, build confidence, and lead naturally to your offer.

What a small, interested audience can mean
I learned this by comparing two of my own videos. One attracted millions of viewers. The other helped people decide whether an affiliate product was right for them.
Millions of views
At 6,172,323 views, my cake video had earned $10,115 in ad revenue, $813 in ebook sales, and $120 in affiliate commissions over roughly 15 years.
That’s $11,048 in total revenue ÷ 6,172,323 views = about $0.0018 per view—less than one-fifth of a penny. Millions of views, but very little revenue from each view.
I was sharing a lesson with my members. I’d accidentally done some things right with YouTube SEO, but I hadn’t intentionally connected the video to a relevant offer.
The video helped people bake a cake. It gave very few of them a reason to become a customer.
A small audience with buying intent
My dedicated affiliate review helped people understand a product they were considering.
With just 233 views, it generated 11 sales and $1,302.60 in affiliate commissions.
Add $4.23 in ad revenue, and that’s $1,306.83 in total revenue ÷ 233 views = about $5.61 per view. Compare that with about $0.0018 per view for my cake video. Almost all of the review’s revenue came from helping viewers make a buying decision.
What could that mean for you? A small channel can be a place where future customers discover your help. You can build around a relevant product, course, or service, rather than waiting for ad revenue to make your effort worthwhile.
Once you know a video is performing well and converting, you can test promoting it as an ad. You have evidence to build on before you spend more.
That’s what I did. Knowing my review video converted, I then scaled it by putting it into a five-day YouTube in-feed ad campaign. I spent $100, and it generated 12 more sales × $118 commission = $1,416 in additional commissions.
Using approximately 20,000 additional views, that’s $1,416 ÷ 20,000 = $0.0708 per additional view—about 7.08 cents, compared with roughly 0.18 cents per view for my cake video.
$100 ad spend → $1,416 in affiliate commissions
1,316%return on ad spend
($1,416 − $100) ÷ $100 × 100 = 1,316%
That left $1,316 after the ad spend. For every $1 I spent on the campaign, I earned $14.16 in commissions.
One example of testing paid promotion after a video has already converted. This is my result, not a guaranteed return.
| Original organic test | 233 views · 11 sales · $1,306.83 total revenue |
|---|---|
| Five-day promotion | About 20,000 additional views · 12 more sales · $1,416 additional commissions |
| Combined result | About 20,233 views · 23 sales · $2,722.83 combined revenue |
| Combined revenue per view | $2,722.83 ÷ 20,233 ≈ $0.1346—about 13.46 cents per view |
The combined revenue includes $2,718.60 in affiliate commissions and the original $4.23 in ad revenue. After the $100 ad spend, that leaves $2,622.83.
That’s the possibility I want you to see: attract the right people organically, learn whether your video converts, then test scaling it. You can build around helping people choose a relevant offer, without needing millions of views.
These are my own historical results, not typical earnings or a promise of yours. The additional 20,000 views are an estimate, so the campaign and combined per-view figures are approximate. Combined revenue includes the original $4.23 in ad revenue and both sets of affiliate commissions. The videos reached different audiences over different time periods. All per-view figures measure revenue, not profit, and use views rather than unique viewers.
My review brought in 11 sales from just 233 views. Now imagine attracting those 233 views to a video for your own product—or an affiliate offer with a higher commission. What could those same 11 sales be worth?
Imagine it’s your own product
If your video sold your own product at $497, those same 11 sales would generate:
11 × $497 = $5,467 in sales revenue.
From 233 views, that would work out to about $23.46 in sales revenue per view.
You wouldn’t need a viral audience for those sales to make a meaningful difference to your business.
Imagine a 40% affiliate commission
If you recommended a relevant $1,997 affiliate product that paid 40% commission, you’d earn $798.80 per sale.
11 × $798.80 = $8,786.80 in commissions.
From those same 233 views, that would work out to about $37.71 in commissions per view.
That’s why the fit between your viewer, your video, and your offer matters so much.
Results are not typical. These are hypothetical possibilities using the same 233 views and 11 sales as my original test—not results I achieved with these offers or a promise of what you’ll earn. A different offer or price can change how many viewers buy. I want you to see the possibilities, not expect a guaranteed outcome.

Life changed. The videos I’d already created kept helping people find my businesses.
Hi, I’m Amanda 🤗
I’ve been using YouTube since 2007. At first, I shared cake lessons and ideas about teaching children money skills with members who found me through my websites, interviews, and other marketing.
Out of hundreds of videos, a handful—perhaps 10—quietly started bringing people to my businesses. I hadn’t understood why those particular videos worked.
Then, in 2016, I spent three weeks in a medically induced coma. Those YouTube videos kept my cake business and my work teaching children about money alive while I couldn’t work.
I woke up with a severe lung disability and physical limitations. I could no longer bake or decorate cakes. My children were growing up, and my mission was changing. I needed a way to keep helping people that worked with my life and my energy.
So I studied what those few videos had done by accident: how to rank for relevant searches, keep viewers watching, and turn interested viewers into leads and buyers.
When I wasn’t strong enough to create much new content, I tested and improved the videos I already had. I learned to give each one a purpose.
That’s what I want to help you build: useful videos that can keep bringing the right people to you, with a clear next step into your business. So your marketing can support your life, too.

Yes. Start with a specific audience, a problem they need help with, and a relevant next step. My review video generated 11 sales at 233 views. That isn’t a promise of your results, but it shows why I focus on reaching potential buyers rather than chasing a large view count.
Your video can introduce viewers to your own product, course, or service, or to an affiliate product you recommend. Those sales and commissions are separate from YouTube ad revenue. You’re building a path to your business, so ads don’t have to be your income model.
